These fees are for the NPS CHL 12-hour course. The State charges an additional application fee.

You must be at least 21 years of age (18 for military), and have the following:

  • Your Social Security Number
  • Your Texas Driver License or Texas Identification card
  • A valid credit card e.g. Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express. (These charges are separate than charges for the course, ammunition, and range fees.)

You need shooting glasses, hearing protection, baseball style hat, close toed shoes, a handgun; .32 caliber or bigger, 50 rounds of ammunition to qualify, and 40 rounds if you choose to participate in the optional warm-up/training drills.

GC 9411.1 88. HANDGUN PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT

(a) …One part of the course must be classroom instruction and the other part must be range instruction … demonstrates, at a minimum, the degree of proficiency that is required to effectively operate a handgun of.32 caliber or above…

(b) …The handgun proficiency course must include at least 10 hours and not more than 15 hours…

Fingerprint Cards

Fingerprint Applicant Service of Texas (FAST) is a Texas Department of Public Safety program that provides electronic capture of your fingerprints. This is the fastest and highest quality option available to Concealed Handgun Licensing (CHL) applicants.

If you choose not to use the FAST service, you may still take the agency supplied fingerprint cards to any law enforcement agency

Retired /active military personnel may be able to obtain prints through installation police services.
